Celina of The Seas Lan Ha Bay Cruise 2 Days 1 Night

2 daysHanoi - Tuan Chau Marina - Lan Ha Bay - Viet Hai Village - Van Boi - Dark & Bright Cave - Hanoi

One of the largest overnight ships on the bay — 112 metres long, every cabin 45 m² with its own balcony — sailing the quieter water of Lan Ha Bay, south of the main Ha Long channel. A private car collects you at your Hanoi hotel after breakfast and has you back the next evening; in between you cycle through a village reached only by sea, kayak under limestone cliffs and wake up to the bay from your own bed. US$351 per person for 2 travellers in an Ocean Balcony cabin, including the private car from and back to Hanoi.

Why this cruise

  • Lan Ha Bay instead of the main Ha Long channel: the same limestone islands, far fewer boats, and water you can actually swim in

  • Every cabin is 45 m² or more, with a private balcony and a bathtub facing the sea

  • A four-season pool, a glass bridge on the sundeck, mini golf, a gym and a children's play room on board

  • A private car door to door from Hanoi — you leave when you are ready, not when a shuttle bus is full

  • The ship's English-speaking guide runs every excursion, so there is nothing to organise once you step aboard

Itinerary, day by day

Hanoi → Tuan Chau Marina → Lan Ha Bay → Viet Hai Village → Van Boi

Private car to the marina, lunch under way, a village with no road, and kayaking at Van Boi.

Your private car and driver collect you from your hotel in Hanoi at about 8:30. The expressway runs east across the Red River delta, past Hai Phong and over the Bach Dang bridge, and reaches Tuan Chau Marina in about 2.5 hours with a comfort stop. At the Celina lounge the cruise team checks you in and takes care of your luggage from here.

A tender carries you out to Celina of The Seas, and you are welcomed aboard at about 13:00 with a drink and a short briefing. Lunch is served while the ship gets under way, past Turtle Islet and Man's Head Islet and south into Lan Ha Bay — around four hundred islands, nearly all forested to the waterline, added to the Ha Long Bay World Heritage listing by UNESCO in 2023.

Mid-afternoon the tender lands you on Cat Ba Island for Viet Hai Village, a farming and fishing village inside Cat Ba National Park that still has no road to the outside world. You ride in by bicycle or electric car along a flat lane under the cliffs, through a short tunnel into a valley of rice and vegetable plots, with time to walk the village, look into an old earth-walled house and try the fish foot-massage pools.

By about 17:00 the ship lies off Van Boi, a sheltered arm of the bay with a small beach: kayak along the foot of the cliffs or swim. Back on board the chef runs a short Vietnamese cooking class, followed by the sunset party on the sundeck. Dinner is a buffet of fresh seafood and Vietnamese dishes; afterwards there is music on deck, squid fishing off the stern, or your own balcony. Overnight on board.

Kayaking and swimming depend on the weather and the port authority on the day; if they are called off, the cruise guide tells you at the lunchtime briefing and the ship substitutes another stop.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner · Overnight: Celina of The Seas, Lan Ha Bay · Drive: about 2.5 hours, private car

Lan Ha Bay → Dark & Bright Cave → Tuan Chau Marina → Hanoi

Tai chi at sunrise, a bamboo boat into a hidden lagoon, lunch as the ship sails back.

Sunrise over Lan Ha comes up behind the islands, and at about 6:00 the tai chi master leads a gentle session on the sundeck. Tea, coffee and a light breakfast follow while the bay is still quiet.

At about 7:45 the tender takes you to Dark & Bright Cave. You change into a bamboo boat rowed by a local boatman, pass under a low arch of rock — the dark part — and come out into the bright: a still, enclosed lagoon with cliffs on every side. If you would rather stay on board, the pool and sundeck are yours for the morning.

Back on the ship by about 9:30, you have time to pack before check-out. A last lunch is served as Celina sails back up the bay, and at about 12:40 the tender returns you to Tuan Chau Marina. Your private car is waiting for the drive back to Hanoi, reaching your hotel — or Noi Bai airport — in the late afternoon. If you fly out the same evening, book a flight leaving no earlier than 19:00.

  • The car is private: only your party travels in it, from your Hanoi hotel to the marina and back, and you can start on any date. The cruise itself is on a large ship shared with other guests, with your own cabin and balcony, and the ship's English-speaking guide leads every excursion.

  • Citizens of the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, the Nordic countries, Japan, South Korea and several other European countries can enter Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days. Most ASEAN citizens get 30 days (Philippines 21, Brunei 14). Everyone else, including US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and Indian passport holders, needs an e-visa: apply online at the official portal evisa.gov.vn, valid up to 90 days, US$25 single entry or US$50 multiple entry, usually issued within 3–5 working days. We recommend applying at least 2 weeks before travel. See the full country list in our Vietnam e-visa guide. (Rules checked October 2026.)

If you cancel (in writing) more than 21 days before departure, you lose only the deposit, and any amount paid above it stays valid for 12 months towards another tour. From 7 to 21 days before departure the charge is 50% of the tour price, and within 6 days or for a no-show it is 100%. Groups of more than 8 people, and tours that include flights or Mekong river cruises, have different terms. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.

In a storm warning they may shorten the route or hold all vessels in port; this is rare outside the June to September typhoon months. If a sailing is cancelled outright, we offer a new date or refund the cruise in line with the ship's policy.
