    Tour details

    Day 1 — Hanoi → Sapa

Arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi. Your guide and driver meet you at the arrivals gate and take you to a local restaurant for a bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup — beef pho or chicken pho — before the road north.

Drive to Sapa via the Noi Bai – Lao Cai expressway. The road covers around 320 km in 5 to 6 hours including a comfort stop. Most of the route is fast highway; the final 30 km climbs up into the Hoang Lien Son range.

Check in to Highland Resort & Spa in the late afternoon. Free evening to walk into Sapa town at your own pace. Dinner at a local restaurant (own expense).

    Day 2 — Sapa · Fansipan · O Quy Ho · Silver Waterfall · Love Waterfall

Breakfast at the hotel. At 8:30 AM your guide collects you for the short transfer to the Fansipan cable car station. The cable car holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s longest three-rope cable car at 6,292 m. The ride to the mountain station takes 15 minutes; from there it is roughly 600 steps up to the summit at 3,143 m, the highest point in Vietnam. On a clear day you see across the Hoang Lien Son range and down to the Sapa valley; in fog you see fog — both happen often, so plan accordingly.

Buffet lunch at the Fansipan Legend restaurant near the mountain station.

In the afternoon, drive west out of Sapa onto the O Quy Ho Pass road, one of the four great passes of the north. First stop: Silver Waterfall (Thac Bac), a 200 m drop right beside the road around 12 km from Sapa. A short paved path leads to viewing platforms at the foot of the falls.

Continue another few kilometres to Love Waterfall (Thac Tinh Yeu) and the Golden Stream (Suoi Vang) inside Hoang Lien National Park. The walk in from the trailhead is around 30 minutes each way through forest along the stream.

Return to Highland Resort in the late afternoon. Dinner at a local restaurant (own expense).

    Day 3 — Full-day trek · Y Linh Ho → Lao Chai → Tavan → Giang Ta Chai

Breakfast at the hotel. The full-day trek through the Muong Hoa valley — the classic Sapa walk and the best way to see the ethnic minority villages on foot.

Short transfer to the Y Linh Ho trailhead. From there, descend through Black H’mong farmland on a dirt track that drops down to the Muong Hoa river. The morning leg through Y Linh Ho and into Lao Chai takes around 2.5 hours at a steady pace and is mostly downhill.

Lunch (own expense). at a Tavan homestay with the Giay community. Tavan sits in the flatter part of the valley and is a natural midpoint for the trek.

After lunch, continue another 1.5 to 2 hours through Tavan and on to Giang Ta Chai, a Red Dao village further down the valley. The route crosses a suspension bridge over the Muong Hoa river and passes a small bamboo forest.

Vehicle pickup at Giang Ta Chai for the drive back to Sapa, around 45 minutes on a winding road. Total trekking distance: 14 to 15 km, moderate difficulty. Sturdy shoes essential; this trail is muddy in wet conditions. Dinner at a local restaurant (own expense).

Day 4 — Cat Cat · Ma Cha · Ta Phin

Breakfast at the hotel. Short transfer to Cat Cat, a Black H’mong village 3 km from Sapa town at the foot of Fansipan inside Hoang Lien National Park. The walk through the village runs past working farmhouses and onto a dirt trail along the river through rice paddies and corn fields. The route ends at a suspension bridge with the option to visit a Black H’mong family home. Walk back to the village centre and drive to Sapa town for lunch (own expense).

In the afternoon, drive north to the Ta Phin area, around 12 km from Sapa. Stop first at Ma Cha (also written Ma Tra), a small Red Dao settlement on the hillside above the main valley.

Continue to Ta Phin village itself, the main Red Dao community in the area. Ta Phin is known for its embroidery, its old French abbey ruins on the edge of the village, and the Red Dao herbal bath — a traditional medicine preparation that uses up to twelve mountain plants. If time allows, the herbal bath is worth doing here (own expense, around 150,000–250,000 VND per person; book at the homestay on arrival).

Return to Sapa in the late afternoon. Dinner at a local restaurant (own expense).

    Day 5 — Sapa → Tu Le

Breakfast and check out from Highland Resort. Drive south from Sapa toward Tu Le valley via the high mountain route. The road runs through tea plantations and small Tay and H’mong communities; allow around 4 hours including stops.

Stop en route at a working tea plantation for photos and a tasting of green and Shan Tuyet (ancient tree) tea, the variety grown at altitude in this region. Lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant.

Continue into the Tu Le basin. Short visit to Lim Mong, a Black H’mong village set high on the hillside above the Cao Pha valley, with a viewpoint over its terraced rice fields.

Check in at a Tu Le homestay — a working stilt-house run by a Thai family. The accommodation is simple: mattresses on the wooden floor, shared bathroom facilities downstairs, mosquito nets provided. Dinner with the family (set menu, included). Tu Le is famous for its sticky rice (com nep), grown on the surrounding terraces and pounded in a wooden mortar — expect to see and probably eat some.

Day 6 — Tu Le → Khau Pha Pass → Mu Cang Chai

Breakfast at the homestay and check out. Drive south to Mu Cang Chai, around 2 hours through the heart of the rice terrace district.

Stop at the top of Khau Pha Pass — one of the four great passes of the north, at 1,200 m. The view from the pass looks down to the Lim Mong valley and across to the terraced hillsides on the far side. Best photo light is mid-morning.

Lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant on arrival in Mu Cang Chai.

Afternoon visit to the two best-known viewpoints in the district. Mam Xoi — the “rice mound” — is a cone-shaped hill with terraces spiralling around it, around a 20-minute walk from the parking area along a paved path. Mong Ngua — the “horseshoe” — is a curved arrangement of fields on the opposite hillside. Both are at their best in late September; in mid-October the terraces are post-harvest, still photogenic but no longer fully golden.

Check in to Mu Cang Chai Ecolodge in the late afternoon. The lodge sits on a hillside above the valley with bungalows facing the rice fields. Dinner at the lodge (own expense or set menu, depending on availability).

Day 7 — Mu Cang Chai → Pa Uon → Moc Chau

Breakfast at the lodge and check out. The longest driving day of the trip — around 7 to 8 hours total — broken up by photo stops and lunch. Heads south through Than Uyen district, then along the Da River reservoir to Pa Uon.

Photo stop in the Than Uyen rice fields, mid-morning.

Continue to Pa Uon bridge, one of the highest road bridges of its type in Vietnam at roughly 120 m above the Da River reservoir. The view from the bridge spans the reservoir on both sides — a strong stop for landscape photography. Allow 20 to 30 minutes.

Lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant along the way.

Continue east through Son La province and on to Moc Chau plateau (around 1,000 m elevation). Check in at the Muong Thanh Hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner at a local restaurant (own expense).

Day 8 — Moc Chau · White Dragon Glass Bridge · Heart Tea Hill → Pu Luong

Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Morning sightseeing on the Moc Chau plateau before transferring to Pu Luong.

First stop: the White Dragon glass bridge — a 632 m glass pedestrian bridge, currently recognised by Guinness as the world’s longest of its kind. 2.4 m wide, 150 m above the valley floor, rated for 450 people. Allow 45 to 60 minutes including the queue. Wear socks (provided over your shoes for the glass section).

Continue to the Heart Tea Hill (Doi Che Trai Tim) — a green spiral of tea bushes shaped like a heart, planted on a small hill outside Moc Chau town. Short stop for photos, around 20 to 30 minutes.

Lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant, then drive south to Pu Luong nature reserve in Thanh Hoa province, around 4 hours. The road winds for the final hour through hills before dropping into the Pu Luong valley.

Check in to Pu Luong Retreat Home in the late afternoon. Bungalow accommodation, infinity pool overlooking rice terraces, restaurant on site. Dinner at the lodge (own expense or set menu).

Day 9 — Pu Luong · Don Village · Bat Cave · Hieu Waterfall

Breakfast at the lodge. Morning walk through Don village, a White Thai community in the heart of the Pu Luong reserve. The route runs between stilt houses and terraced fields with a working waterwheel midway. Easy pace, mostly flat, around 1.5 hours.

Short transfer to the Kho Muong area, then walk up to the Bat Cave — a large limestone cavern in the hill above Kho Muong village. The cave runs deep, with bat colonies overhead; bring a torch (your guide will have one). Inside, the cave widens into chambers with stalactites; the air is cool year-round.

Continue on the trail down toward Hieu village and Hieu waterfall — a series of seven small cascades fed by a stream from the village above.

Lunch (own expense) at a stilt-house restaurant beside the waterfall. After lunch, time to swim in the natural pools at the foot of the lower cascades.

Return to Pu Luong Retreat in the late afternoon. Total walking distance for the day: around 8 to 10 km at moderate difficulty. Dinner (own expense) at the lodge.

    Day 10 — Pu Luong → Hanoi

Breakfast at the lodge and check out. Drive back to Hanoi via the Ninh Binh side road and the Phap Van expressway — around 4 hours total including a lunch stop.

Lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant en route.

Arrival in Hanoi mid-afternoon. Check in to the Champton Hotel in the Old Quarter. Free evening to walk Hoan Kiem lake, the night market on Hang Dao (Friday to Sunday only), or the bia hoi corner at Ta Hien street.

    Day 11 — Hanoi departure

Breakfast at the hotel. Free morning until check out (by 12:00 PM). Luggage can be left at reception if your flight is later in the day.

Transfer to Noi Bai International Airport for your onward flight. End of services.
