Su Muon Pagoda: A Sacred Oasis in the Heart of Phu Quoc
Located in Duong To Commune, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, Su Muon Pagoda (Hung Long Tu) is a spiritual retreat well-known among locals and visitors. From Duong Dong Town, take the Duong Dong - Ham Ninh Road for approximately 5 kilometers before turning right and climbing 60 stone steps to reach the temple.
Established in the 1930s, Su Muon Pagoda was initially a modest structure made of wood and leaves. It was founded by Gia Minh, a businessman-turned-monk who spread Buddhism across various islands before settling in Phu Quoc. Although it was severely damaged during wartime in 1945, it was reconstructed in 1955 by monk Minh Uc. A major renovation took place 40 years later, preserving the legacy of its founder.
Nestled against the mountains and shaded by ancient trees, Su Muon Pagoda provides a tranquil atmosphere. Visitors can admire the peaceful scenery while listening to the rustling leaves and the soft murmuring of a nearby stream. The main hall, elevated on a three-meter stone foundation, houses Buddha statues and a Guanyin figure, flanked by stone dragons and tigers.
At the rear of the main hall stands a centuries-old Konia tree with sprawling branches, providing shade and an air of sanctity. A Buddha statue is placed beneath it, exuding tranquility. Nearby, a vast myrtle forest shelters the temple’s ancestral stupa.
Despite its modest size compared to mainland temples, Su Muon Pagoda holds great spiritual significance. Many visitors come to pray for well-being, career success, and prosperity, immersing themselves in the sacred ambiance.
As the largest temple in Phu Quoc and the Southwest region of Vietnam, Ho Quoc Pagoda boasts breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding mountains. It is an ideal destination for both sightseeing and worship.
Perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, Cau Palace is a revered spiritual site known for its unique architecture, featuring a red-tiled roof and intricate dragon carvings.
Built in 1993, this temple is not only a place of worship but also a hub of traditional Southern Vietnamese medicine, offering insight into ancient healing practices.
Beyond these spiritual landmarks, Phu Quoc offers stunning beaches like Ong Lang Beach, Khem Beach, and Starfish Beach. Additionally, vibrant attractions such as VinWonders Phu Quoc, Grand World Phu Quoc, and the Phu Quoc Night Market await exploration.
