Trekking the East Slope of Tam Dao Tropical Rainforest National Park
With a mission to create an alluring new tourism experience that attracts international visitors to the community-based destinations of Thai Nguyen province, as well as to forge regional connections with Vinh Phuc, our team of World Mate Travel, in collaboration with the provincial tourism management agency, travel agencies, and local service providers, embarked on a preliminary survey of the trekking route along the east slope of Tam Dao Tropical Rainforest National Park. The journey left us with a deep and unforgettable impression.

The route we chose traversed the east slope of Tam Dao, connecting the Kem Stream area in La Bang Commune to the Cua Tu Stream area in Hoang Nong Commune. To ensure a comfortable start, we spent the previous night at a homestay in Tan Son Hamlet, La Bang Commune. Many of us were novice trekkers, so we were filled with eager anticipation.

Setting out at 6:15 AM the next morning, we made our way along a small concrete road following the Kem Stream, passing by scenic swimming spots. The journey grew more challenging as the concrete path gave way to a trail cleared by the locals, leading us to the captivating White Waterfall (a 2-hour trek). At the waterfall's base, we marveled at the natural wonder before us – a series of cascading, white-capped falls weaving through the rocks, with some draped in a golden moss that shimmered in the sunlight, creating a breathtaking, multicolored canvas.

Conquering the White Waterfall was just the start of our adventure. We continued to ascend, pushing through dense forest sections and navigating treacherous cliffs, until we reached the peak of Leo Tien, standing at 1,200 meters above sea level. The arduous climb tested our limits, but we encouraged each other every step of the way, celebrating our triumph at the summit with a well-deserved rest and lunch.

As the day wore on, the descent proved equally challenging, with steep slopes and slippery rocks posing obstacles. Yet, we were rewarded with a nearly 1-kilometer stretch of towering bamboo forest, a serene scene straight out of a historical film.

The true test of our endurance came as night fell, and we were forced to navigate the remaining trail in the dark. Camaraderie and mutual support rose to new heights, as we shared resources, guided one another, and silently willed the group to reach safety. The sense of connection and resilience forged in those moments is truly irreplaceable.

Finally, we caught sight of the flickering campfire, a beacon leading us to the Cua Tu farmstay. Crossing the stream, we could still hear the enchanting echoes of waterfalls, whetting our appetite to return and conquer the Cua Tu trekking route with the local community.
Arriving at the farmstay, the fatigue melted away in the warm welcome and the cozy, sparkling ambiance. As we reminisced about the day's adventures over a delicious local meal, we realized the true value of this experience – not just in the creation of a new tourism product, but in the profound connections forged and the boundaries we had pushed.
