Titop Island offers stunning vistas that can be admired from a vantage point high up in the center of the island. It boasts a crescent-shaped beach known for its tranquility, powdery white sand, and azure blue waters. Due to its proximity to Bai Chay, a visit to Titop Island is often included in many Halong Bay cruise itineraries.
Formerly called Cat Nang Island, it was later renamed in honor of Russian cosmonaut Gherman Titov, who became the second man to orbit the Earth in 1961. In a gesture of friendship between Vietnam and Russia, the island was renamed 'Titov' by Vietnam's revered leader, Ho Chi Minh. In 1997, Titov made an emotional return to the island, and in 2015, a statue of him was proudly unveiled.
Interestingly, Titop Island is also known as "Cemetery Island" to the locals, as a French cargo ship sank near the island in 1905, resulting in the burial of its entire crew on the island.
Travelers can visit Titop Island year-round, but the peak seasons are from June to July for domestic and Asian tourists, and from December to February for European and American visitors. The off-peak seasons of April to May and August to October offer lower prices and fewer crowds.
On the island, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including:
